Cherokee Campground

Cherokee Campground (formerly known as Cherokee Beach and Cherokee Kamper Village) is a 150-acre campground with a 20-acre artificial lake located on Cherokee Beach Road (Highway 93) in unincorporated Shelby County near Hoover, Bessemer and Helena.

The park was originally developed in 1960 as a family attraction by Sonny Littleton, who named it Cherokee Beach to respect his own Native American heritage as well as to honor the people whose artifacts he found along the banks of Trigger Creek during the surveying for the lake.

Cherokee Beach offered swimming from a sand-covered beach area as well as boating, fishing, picnic areas with barbecue pits, a group pavilion, concessions and a bandstand for entertainment.

The facility was converted to a 100-site RV Park by Littleton's son Bruce in 1987. Since December 2005 the site has been leased and operated by William B. Hobson and his son David. They have plans to construct rental cabins, a clubhouse, restaurant and artist community and to sponsor an annual art and music festival.

The RV Park offers overnight as well as long-term rates.
