Cocina Superior was a high-concept modern Tex-Mex restaurant located in the space vacated by East City Grill on the terrace in front of Brookwood Village. The restaurant was a joint project of Gabe Garza, along with Superior Grill's Phil Barbaree, and Bob Kirchoff. The head chef, Jess Bourgeois is formerly from Commander's Palace in New Orleans, but had relocated to Birmingham after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
