Cocina Superior is a high-concept modern Tex-Mex restaurant located in the space vacated by East City Grill on the terrace in front of Brookwood Village. The restaurant is a joint project of Gabe Garza, along with Superior Grill's Phil Barbaree, and Bob Kirchoff. The head chef, Jess Bourgeois is formerly from Commander's Palace in New Orleans, but has relocated to Birmingham after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The restaurant interior was redesigned by Mark Knauer of Knauer, Inc. in Chicago to give the place a breezier, more open feel. Abundant outdoor table areas are made available year-round. The restaurant features a full bar and a weekend brunch menu.
