Community Kitchens is a non-profit organization that has provided free meals to Birmingham residents since 1980. Based at St Andrew's Episcopal Church in Southside and Grace Episcopal Church in Woodlawn, Community Kitchens gives meals to anyone who shows up with no questions asked and no preaching. The group currently serves about 250 people a day and is open 365 days a year.
The groups is involved with the Metro Birmingham Services for the Homeless, the Alabama Rescue Mission, and the Nonprofit Resource Center of Alabama.
On April 25, 2006, Community Kitchens had a 25th anniversary celebration and fund-raising dinner at the Historic Rucker Place on 12th Avenue South.
