David "Mississippi Town" Russell (born c. 1951) is an insurance agent and frequent political candidate.

Russell has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Alabama State University. Russell's first political campaign was an unsuccessful run for the Alabama Public Service Commission in 1982. He also ran unsuccessfully for the City Council District 9 position in 2001, 2005, and 2009, losing to Roderick Royal all three times, and for Alabama House District 60 in 2006, losing to Earl Hilliard Jr.

As a 2009 City Council candidate, Russell ran on a platform of improving public safety, increasing community involvement, addressing environmental issues, and improving education. He ran again for the District 9 seat in the 2013 Birmingham municipal election.

Russell was formerly married to State Representative and State Senator Sundra Escott and has one son, David Jr.
