Fried Green Radio was a planned independent radio station for the Birmingham area. The organizers attempted to establish themselves as a non-profit organization and planned to broadcast over the Internet starting on January 1, 2007, with the goal to broadcast over the air, likely on an AM frequency.

Organizers

Fried Green Radio's organizers were Angie May, Dama Nichols, and Lisa Cordes. The original broadcasts originated from Nichols' basement in Irondale, and plans called for the station to move to a studio in Southside.

Format

FGR's focus was to provide Birmingham with a lineup of material that was not found on mainstream radio. Playlists were to include blues from the 1920s to 1940s, underground hip-hop, themed rock, literary readings, hardcore, ghost stories and conspiracy theories.

A benefit show was held on December 9, 2006 at The High Note Lounge.
