The Library is named for the city’s first librarian, Mrs. Martha Moore, who oversaw the growth from a one-room facility to today’s state-of-the-art research and learning center. It is located at 995 [[Mt Olive Road]].
Gardendale's first public library was a set of shelves in the office of the Chief of Police, approved in [[1959]] by Mayor [[J. I. Pesnell]] at the suggestion of [[Martha C. Moore]], who became the city's first librarian. Over the next 45 years the library moved four times. Its current building, at 995 [[Mt Olive Road]], opened in [[1990]] and was fully renovated and expanded from 7,730 square feet to 12,642 square feet in [[2012]].
 
A large, outdoor deck was added to the library in 2016 and was officially opened for public use on September 15, [[2016]] with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

In December 2022 pipes burst in the library due to extreme cold temperatures and flooded much of the interior space. The library reopened for public use in May 2023.
