The Green Building Focus Conference & Expo is a building industry event held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in 2009 and 2010 and planned as an annual event. It is organized by Green Building Focus, an advocacy group founded by James Smith, based in Birmingham, and producing similar conferences around the world.
The conference and expo covers topics relating to "green" building and sustainable design and construction. The event is designed to provide practical knowledge to professionals in the design and construction fields and to support the development of green building practices and related industries in the region. Each expo includes an intensive one-day workshop covering the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) standards for green buildings.
The 2009 conference attracted nearly 2,000 attendees. Featured guests included Indian architect Karan Grover and South African researcher Llewellyn Van Wyk. Their participation inspired the development of a so-called "Birmingham Charter" to be presented to global conferences of architects and builders as a statement of principles to guide sustainable development.
