Heritage Hall

Heritage Hall is a 5-story, 91,750 square-foot building housing UAB's School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. It is located on the northwest corner of UAB Campus Green at the corner of University Boulevard and 14th Street South in the heart of the UAB campus.

Heritage Hall was designed by KPS Group and built by Hoar Construction. It was completed in January 2008 (although some faculty moved in earlier). The building holds three large lecture halls, six medium-sized lecture rooms, three seminar rooms, eight laboratory spaces and 118 faculty offices. The second floor computer lab houses 178 terminals. The fifth floor holds a digital video editing suite with 20 workstations. The building makes use of computer-controlled lighting and mechanical systems to reduce energy use.

In addition to the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Heritage Hall will house faculty from the Department of Communications, student advising and honors programs, Study Away, service learning and the African-American Studies program. Most occupants of the new building are relocating from the Ullman Building, originally a Birmingham City School built in 1901. The name of the new building makes reference to the Heritage of Samuel Ullman, namesake of the school, and the Ullman School's history serving black children in Southside.
