James Thompson Mitchell (born February 17, 1929; died January 22, 2019 in Vestavia Hills) was an architect who spent most of his career as vice-president of Henry Sprott Long & Associates.
Mitchell graduated from Woodlawn High School and earned his degree in architecture at Auburn University. He served during the Korean War at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.
He worked in Birmingham as an architect until his retirement in 2000. He was also a senior warden and parish architect for the Episcopal Church of the Ascension.
Mitchell and his wife, Faye had four children: Thom, John, Nan and Jane Emily. He died in January 2019.
