Joey Jones

Joseph Russell "Joey" Jones (born October 29, 1962 in Mobile) is a former professional football player and a collegiate football coach. He was Birmingham-Southern's coach for their 2007 season, the first for the Division III school since 1939. He is currently the head coach for the University of South Alabama.

A standout at Mobile's Murphy High School, Jones played collegiately at the University of Alabama for Bear Bryant. The Crimson Tide reciever was picked up by the USFL's Birmingham Stallions in the 1984 draft. He also played for the NFL's Atlanta Falcons.

Jones was a successful high school football coach at both Dora and Mountain Brook before accepting the position at Birmingham-Southern in 2006. He led the Panthers to a 1-7 innaugural season in the SCAC with primarily freshman and sophomore players.
