Kings Innis a 4-story, 150-room motel located at 1313 3rd Avenue North. It was built in 1962 as the Holiday Inn-Birmingham or Holiday Inn-Downtown]]. It later operated as a Knights Inn. T. G.'s Lounge is located in the building.
The Holiday Inn was developed by franchisee Shades Crest Motels at a cost of between $1.5 and $2 million. It was designed by Holiday Inn's Memphis-based architect William Bond, and built by the chain's own construction division with the help of local subcontractors. The motel included a swimming pool, banquet facilities and restaurant.
The motel later operated as a Knights Inn, and then was sold and now operated independently as "Kings Inn".
On February 21, 2008 Martez Bimbow was fatally wounded in a gunfight during an attempted robbery at the motel. In May 2010 Birmingham Fire and Rescue evacuated a portion of the motel after the owner discovered what may have been the remains of a meth lab in one of the guest room bathtubs. Another gunshot victim was found in a room at the motel in 2016.
