Lane Teacher Building was located at the corner of 5th Avenue South and 13th Street South. The long-vacant building was owned by the Birmingham Board of Education and was sold to UAB in 2011. UAB, which owns the entire block between 4th and 5th Avenues and 12th and 13th Avenues, gained permission to demolish the Lane Teacher Building from the City of Birmingham Design Review Committee on May 11, 2011. Initial plans for the block as stated by a university spokesperson were for a parking lot, while a map provided to the committee labeled the block as "intramural fields".
