Camacho Santa Ana earned a bachelor's degree in French and theater from Birmingham-Southern College in 1991 and a master's in public administration at UAB. She worked as a salesperson in both retail and wholesale wine sales in New York City before opening "LeNell's Ltd.", an award-winning wine and spirits boutique in Brooklyn in 2003.

In 2009, after losing her lease, Camacho Santa Ana relocated to Baja California Sur, where she and her husband, Demian, operated "Casa Cóctel" lounge. The couple returned to Birmingham in 2011. They purchased the J. R. Copeland residence in Norwood in 2012. Since then she has worked as a bar manager for Homewood's Little Donkey.
