Hale County

  1. December 31: Roy Scott, 23, was one of two inmates escaped from Kilby Prison several months prior, who were shot to death by a night watchman during an attempted robbery at 2:00 AM in downtown Moundville. The shooter, Percy Abernathy, was slightly wounded in the exchange. He was not prosecuted for a crime. (report)
  2. December 31: Vernon E. Barksdale, 27, was killed in the same incident.
