The May 1917 tornado was a deadly tornado spawned by a system that swept into Northern Alabama from Kansas and Arkansas on May 27, 1917.

The tornado wiped out the towns of Carbon Hill and Village Springs and caused death and destruction in Bradford, Majestic and Sayre. The toll in deaths exceeded 36 persons in the Birmingham District, with many more injured and an estimated loss of over $1,000,000 in property.
