New Hope Baptist Church is a 6,000-member church with two locations, 1740 Cleburn Avenue in West End and 4022 4th Avenue South in South Avondale. The church also runs the New Hope Christian School, Garden of Hope apartment community, and New Hope Credit Union.

Founded in 1892 the congregation had dwindled to less than 200 members when Gregory Clark took over the pulpit in 1986. He spurred a period of explosive growth and the establishment of numerous community ministries, including the second campus in Avondale. When Clarke reported for a 21-month federal prison sentence for tax evasion, he left plans for the operation of the church and expects to return upon his release. The interim pastor is Kelvin Bryant, who commutes from Dallas, Texas to lead Sunday services.
