William Newell Sheridan (born in Waynesboro, Georgia) was a bass trombonist for the Alabama Symphony Orchestra from 1975 to 2002 and a founder of the Birmingham Brass Quintet. He was also an instructor at Samford University and UAB and a woodworker and metalworker.

Sheridan studied at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, Indiana University and the University of South Carolina. He later became an equipment dealer, representing S. E. Shires instruments and his own line of stands and cases.
