The Presbytery of the South is the regional unit of ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians encompassing Birmingham. ECO was formed at a January 2012 conference in Orlando, Florida, by members of the Presbyterian Church (USA) who were concerned about the decline in deonominational membership and theological disputes. Particularly prominent was the move to ordain partnered LGBTQ+ individuals in the PC(USA).
The Presbytery of the South comprises the states of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. In April 2024 there were 32 churches in the presbytery. Three of these were in Alabama.
Birmingham-area congregations include:
- Bryan Memorial Presbyterian Church, Valleydale Road
- Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, McCalla
