Remdesivir (GS-5734) is an investigational broad-spectrum anti-viral drug under development by Gilead Sciences of Foster City, California. It is currently not approved for treatment of any disease in the United States and is not commercially marketed, but has been distributed for clinical research trials and under "compassionate use" guidelines for experimental treatment.

Remdesivir is one of thousands of molecules compiled into a "compound library" by Gilead. It was identified by researchers at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control as a candidate for further investigation and showed promise when tested in cell and animal models in a study led by Sina Bavari of the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID). That study, notably, provided evidence that the compound was effective in combating infection from the Ebola virus in rhesus monkeys.
