The Sayre Revitalization Corporation is a non-profit organization set up to benefit residents of the town of Sayre, a former mining community in northwest Jefferson County.
The Corporation received a $7,500 grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham to fund their empowerment program. More significantly, it was named as a beneficiary, to the tune of $1.7 million, in the estate of philanthropist Marie Ingalls who died in June, 2004. The estate has been disputed in probate court, in part because Bonnie Roberts, who is connected to the Sayre Revitalization Corporation, is the wife of the executor.
Lawyers for Ingalls' relatives in their investigation, and the Birmingham News, in following up on the dispute, was unable to contact representatives for the Sayre Redevelopment Corporation, which last filed financial disclosures in 2003.
