Shwetak Patel (born c. 1982 in Selma, Dallas County) is a computer scientist and recipient of a 2011 John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation "genius grant" fellowship.

Patel grew up in Forestdale and graduated from the Jefferson County International Baccalaureate School in 2000. He completed a doctoral degree in computer science at the Georgia Institute of Technology and is currently an assistant professor of computer science and electrical engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle.

While at Georgia Tech, Patel launched a startup company, Zensi, which develops energy monitoring devices based on his research. He sold the firm to Belkin in 2009.
