The Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation was a Creve Coeur, Missouri-based manufacturer of cardboard boxes. The company operated a 110-worker plant at 3200 Pinson Valley Parkway in Birmingham.
In January 2009 Smurfit-Stone announced plans to file for bankruptcy protection. Norcross, Georgia-based RockTenn purchased the company for $3.5 billion and closed the Birmingham plant as part of its realignment.
