The ending where he congratulates himself on selling his prejudiced father's house to a Black couple is particularly annoying as he conveniently leaves out what a bad neighborhood that house was in. * Hey, that's MY neighborhood. (And I don't remember him congratulating himself for the sale, which, if I recall was handled by other members of the family -- though he was pleased about the irony.) --[[User:Dystopos|Dystopos]] 15:11, 4 August 2010 (PDT) |

I have to say I found Hemphill obnoxiously self righteous in this memoir. The ending where he congratulates himself on selling his prejudiced father's house to a Black couple is particularly annoying as he conveniently leaves out what a bad neighborhood that house was in. Hemphill makes it sound like he righted the scales of justice, when he really just unloaded a worn out old house in a changing (for the worse!) neighborhood. -- ExPat 12:59, 4 August 2010
