Name

The name of Owenton may be a reference to Thomas Hennington Owen (1814-1884), a merchant and planter and Jefferson County Commissioner who financed the construction of a forge and tannery near Tannehill. I don't know of an actual connection to this community, but it is perhaps notable that a section of 8th Avenue West running in front of Owenton College is shown as "Hennington Avenue" in Kelley's 1922 map. --Dystopos (talk) 18:33, 6 April 2017 (PDT)
