Needs work
Well, this article is not a stub, but it needs work on the early history. I found The Birmingham News published obituaries of co-founder Inos Allen Heard around his death on March 7, 1996, but I don't have access to the full text from here. --Lkseitz 11:24, 11 December 2006 (PST)

I _think_ they may still be owned by Western Supermarkets, but I'm not sure & don't have time to research it. FWIW, the Gardendale store originally opened in 1961.
