Needs work

Well, this article is not a stub, but it needs work on the early history. I found The Birmingham News published obituaries of co-founder Inos Allen Heard around his death on March 7, 1996, but I don't have access to the full text from here. --Lkseitz 11:24, 11 December 2006 (PST)

Gardendale Western

The Western in Gardendale converted to a Food Depot in 2009. See the Jun 17, 2009 NJN issue for more info. I _think_ they may still be owned by Western Supermarkets, but I'm not sure & don't have time to research it. FWIW, the Gardendale store originally opened in 1961. --Robert Matthews (talk) 14:26, 9 August 2016 (PDT)

  • My first search for Food Depot found a chain in Georgia at myfooddepot.com. Then I found the Gardendale and Pelham stores at myfooddepot.net. I couldn't immediately figure out the current relationship to Western, but I thought the fact that both the Western and Food Depot web sites use the same web designer might be telling. Then I got confirmation by selecting "Corporate Office" on the Western site. The feedback form makes you select a chain and Food Depot is one of the choices. --Lkseitz (talk) 05:57, 10 August 2016 (PDT)
    • Great info! Thanks for researching it. I had always wondered if there was a connection between the two stores, but hadn't ever taken the time to figure it out. Robert Matthews (talk) 07:59, 10 August 2016 (PDT)
