Vulcan GameBox, located in the Publix shopping center at 5192 Caldwell Mill Road in Hoover, lets customers play unlimited games on computers or Xbox 360 video game consoles for an hourly charge. The owners are Matt Salerno and Nitish Barman.

Vulcan GameBox opened in June 2007. Owners Salerno and Barman, both software engineers, wanted to run their own business. They took their cue from Asia, where video game centers are a booming business.

As of October 2007, the center's equipment included 18 custom-built PCs, nine Xbox 360 systems, and one Nintendo Wii. All are hooked up to allow play over the Internet or with other customers in the business. In addition, each Xbox 360 station features a gaming chair with built-in subwoofers. Customers may buy a monthly membership that provides cheaper hourly prices or the ability to buy a day pass, which is available exclusively to members.
