Aaron Martens

Aaron Martens (born August 24, 1974; died November 4, 2021) was a professional bass fisherman and fishing-lure designer based in Leeds.

Martens moved to Leeds from California to be closer to tournament stops. Martens began fishing competitively in high school, competing with his mother, Carol, in weekend team tournaments. He joined the BASS Tour in 1999.

Martens finished first in five professional tournaments, including the May 2009 Marine Formula Sta-Bil Southern Challenge Pro Tournament at Lake Guntersville. He was the Bassmaster Angler of the Year in 2005, 2013 and 2015. He qualified for the Bassmaster Classic 20 times and finished second four times. He has also won the U.S. Open twice.

In April 2020, Martens suffered a seizure while fishing on Lay Lake. He was diagnosed with cancerous tumors near his brain, which were removed by surgery at Grandview Medical Center two days later. Martens died November 4, 2021.[1]
