William Histaspas Stewart Jr (born August 20, 1939 in Hartselle, Morgan County; died January 3, 2021) was a professor emeritus of political science at the University of Alabama.

Stewart was the son of William and Opal Evelyn Cross Stewart. He completed a bachelor of arts at the University of Alabama in 1960, a master's degree from George Washington University in Washington D.C. in 1961, and a PhD at Alabama in 1968. He began his teaching career at the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, then returned to his alma mater in 1972. Stewart was promoted to chair of the Department of Political Science in 1992. In 2000 Stewart retired from active teaching and was granted emeritus status.

Stewart married the former Connie Sue Scott on May 12, 1975. They had one child, William III. In addition to his writing and teaching, Stewart was known as a caring mentor. He was also an avid runner and an active member of the University Church of Christ.
