John R. Jones

John Raymond Jones III (born c. 1966 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina) is vice president for student affairs at UAB.

Jones completed his undergraduate degree in applied mathematics at Appalachian State University in 1988 and his master of arts and a PhD in higher education administration at the University of Iowa in 1994 and 1997.

Since then, he has worked as a student affairs specialist at Purdue University, as assistant vice chancellor and associate dean of students at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), and as associate vice president for student affairs at Northern Illinois University. He joined the University of North Carolina-Pembroke in 2013 as vice chancellor of student affairs before starting at UAB on July 15, 2015.

Jones has served on the boards of directors of the Center for Academic Integrity at Duke University; the Madame Walker Urban Life Center in Indianapolis, Indiana; and the Association for Student Conduct Administration in College Station, Texas.

Jones also spent eighteen years serving in the Army National Guard. He retired with the rank of Major in 2006.
