List of Birmingham homicides in 1894

This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 1894. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that not all homicides are ultimately ruled to be murder in courts of law.

Listing

1. June 12: Eugene Jeffers, 20, was shot to death at the bar of the Florence Hotel when he confronted Peyton Bowman to demand redress for Bowman having struck his father, former Mayor Thomas Jeffers earlier that evening. John T. Bowman held Jeffers while Bowman shot him. Both Bowmans were charged with murder, but acquitted in February 1895 on grounds of self defense. (Vernon Courier-June 14, 1894)
2. December 25: Sam Bowen was shot to death in a dispute over poker dice at John Haran's Saloon on the corner of 18th Street and 4th Avenue North. James Adkins and Bruce Kelley were accused of murder. (report)
