This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 1990. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that not all homicides are ultimately ruled to be murder in courts of law.

1990 saw 129 homicides reported in Birmingham. Based on the 1990 census count of 265,968 residents, the homicide rate for the city was 54.5 homicides per 100,000 population for the year.

Listing

  1. May 27: Earnest Lewis, 79, was pistol-whipped during a robbery at his home at 2341 16th Street West. He described his attacker as a dark-complected black male in his mid-30s armed with a blue steel automatic pistol. No arrest.
  2. December: Wilbert Witcher Jr was shot to death during a robbery. John David Johnson was arrested and charged with capital murder. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of felony murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. (report)
  3. December 20: Eloise Holcombe, 70, was found dead in her home on 51st Street Ensley. There was evidence at the scene that she had been attacked while bringing in groceries and was bound, gagged and raped and then shot multiple times. No arrest.
