The company was founded in 2019 by fiber design and engineering manager Brian Snider, and operates from his home in Chelsea. During its first year the company contracted to build out "last mile" fiber internet to 45,000 residences and businesses in Medina County, Ohio.
Lit Communities has also helped develop broadband infrastructure plans for Brownville, Texas; Monongalia County, West Virginia; and Mansfield, Louisiana.
In 2023 the company secured $150 million in capital investment funding from Oak Hill Capital to support expansion across the United States.
