Otis Dismuke

Otis Wayne Dismuke (born August 30, 1957; died January 16, 2015) was a leader in community education.

Dismuke was the older of two children born to Obie and Susie Mae Dismike. He attended W. C. Davis Elementary School and graduated from Hayes High School in 1975. He went on to complete a bachelor of arts at Talladega College and a master of science at Alabama State University.

Dismuke began his career as coordinator of Birmingham City Schools' West End Community School. He founded the C.A.R.E.S Youth Council and the Male Leadership Club at West End High School, and also organized Camp Birmingham and Camp IDEA during the summers. After seventeen years he was promoted to Director of the system's Community Education Department.

Dismuke was also a deacon, usher, Sunday School teacher, and chair of the scholarship committee at St James Missionary Baptist Church.

Dismuke died in 2015 and is buried at Elmwood Cemetery.
