Tuska, September 2021

Tuska is a 7-ton life-size bronze sculpture depicting a trumpeting male African elephant, created by English-born sculptor and former safari guide Terry Owen Matthews.

The sculpture was displayed in front of the clubhouse at the North River Yacht Club from 2000 to 2021. That year it was given to the University of Alabama by Westervelt Company. $415,000 from the "Crimson Standard" campaign was spent to prepare a suitable pedestal with concrete steps and walks, along with landscaping and lighting, at what is now called Tuska Plaza, at the corner of University Boulevard and Wallace Wade Avenue, just northwest of Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The completed installation was dedicated for the "A-Day" football scrimmage on April 17, 2021.
