Anthony Joseph Bruno (born January 26, 1927; died February 16, 2019) was a former Senior Vice President of Bruno's, his family's grocery store change, and the former Chairman and CEO of Big B, Inc.
Bruno, known as "Mr. Anthony" to many, was a younger brother of Joe Bruno, founder of the Bruno's grocery store that would go on to become the state's largest grocery store chain. Bruno served in the U.S. Army in World War II. After his discharge, he joined his brothers in expanding the store. He eventually became the Senior Vice President who oversaw store operations and real estate development.
Bruno's spun out Big B Drugs as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bruno's in 1976. After Big B's public offering in 1980, Bruno became Chairman and CEO of the company, growing it to almost 400 stores across five states. He retired after Big B was acquired by Revco (which was acquired by CVS shortly thereafter) in the late 1990s.
Bruno continued as a member on several corporate and philanthropic boards in his retirement. He was also a long-time member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover and a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
