Revision as of 10:08, 11 January 2024
This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 2024. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the commission of the crime of murder as charged by police and prosecutors.
3 homicides have been reported in the city as of January 11. Birmingham had 150 homicides in 2023, a record high. The recent record low of 62 homicides was set in 2014. At this point in 2023, 4 homicides had been reported.
The city has averaged 8.5 homicides per month, or one every 3.7 days.
None of the reported homicides have been ruled justifiable as self-defense by investigators or prosecutors. One death resulted from a crime committed in 2023. With the exception of those cases, the department acknowledges 2 chargeable homicides in 2024. Suspects have been identified in 1 case, arrested in 1 and charged in 0.
At least 2 deaths so far have resulted from shootings and 1 from arson. 3 incidents occurred at private homes.

2 victims were male and 1 was a female.
