The Mystic Krewe of Apollo (MKA) is a Birmingham-based carnival organization which was founded in 1976 as a "sister Krewe" to the organization founded in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1969 by Roland Dobson. Membership in the Krewe is restricted to 40 male members.
The Mystic Krewe of Apollo held its first Apollo Ball bal masque at Roma Country Club on January 27, 1977. Since the invitation-only formal event has grown, it is now held annually at Boutwell Auditorium with as many as 1,800 guests.
Throughout the year, the organization participates in fund raisers for Birmingham AIDS Outreach, Central Alabama Pride, the Children's Hospital of Alabama, and others.
