The Fish Market is a restaurant chain founded by Jimmy Hontzas. The flagship Birmingham location is at 612 22nd Street South.
The restaurant was purchased by Hontzas' nephew, George Sarris, in July 1982. With a partner, George Drakos purchased Empire Seafood in 1996. Drakos and Petros Kartos operate Fish Market locations at 1681 Montgomery Highway in Hoover and 5407 U. S. Highway 280 near Greystone.
In 2007 Sarris moved the original fish market into its present location in the Harris Transfer Buildings. The renovation of the historic warehouse earned the restaurant and Lathan Associates Architects a Preservation Award from the Birmingham Historical Society.
The Fish Market is a member of the Birmingham Originals restaurant alliance.
