Le Dîner en Blanc is a worldwide movement to conduct "chic picnics" in the manner of a flash mob, by inviting hundreds of participants to a location announced to ticketholders at the last minute.
Attendees dress in all white and bring their own tables with all-white dressings, and their own food and beverages. After dinner, the participants light sparklers and are then invited to dance. At the conclusion of the event, they remove their table and litter. The purpose of the event is to create a memorable shared experience while highlighting the beauty of public spaces in cities.
The first Dîner en Blanc was organized by François Pasquier in Paris, France in 1988. The concept has since expanded to hundreds of cities. Jasmine Allen, Lynda Allen, and Jackki Green hosted Birmingham's first affiliated event in 2019.
