This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 2016. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the commission of the crime of murder as charged by police and prosecutors.

Nine homicides have been reported in the city as of February 1, putting the city on pace for 103 for the year. Based on the 2014 census estimate of 212,247 population, that would represent 48.5 homicides per 100,000 residents. Birmingham had 96 homicides in 2015 and a record low of 62 homicides in 2014. The recent record high was 141 in 1992. At this time in 2015 there had been 7 homicides reported.

The city has averaged 8.7 homicides per month, or one every 3.6 days. There were 9 incidents in January and none so far in February. The longest stretch without a homicide was the 8 days between January 18 and 26. Two violent deaths were reported on Sundays, none on Mondays, 2 on Tuesdays, none on Wednesdays, 2 on Thursdays, 3 on Fridays and none on Saturdays.

Of the 9 reported homicides, suspects have been identified in 3 cases, apprehended in 3, and charged in 1. One homicide was ruled justifiable by prosecutors and another remains under investigation. The police department therefore acknowledges 7 chargeable homicides, of which 7 so far have been classified as murders.

At least five homicides took place inside homes, two on the streets, one in a yard, and one at an apartment complex. Four were reported in the West Precinct, one in the East Precinct, one in the South Precinct and three in the North Precinct. Three deaths were the result of domestic disputes and another resulted from a robbery. Seven victims were male and two were female.
