The building was built by [[Charlie Molay]] around [[1960]] on the site of a former [[Jefferson Iron & Metal Co.]] scrap yard.

The western side of the building was constructed at an angle which had been established before the 1880s to accommodate the right-of-way for trackage of the [[Kansas City, Memphis and Birmingham Railroad]] and the [[Birmingham & Pratt Mines Railroad]] which had serviced the nearby [[Alice Furnaces]].


From [[2001]] to [[2019]] it was the headquarters of the [[Birmingham Urban League]]. [[Edwards Chevrolet]] purchased the building in [[2023]] for use as a parts warehouse.

1229 3rd Avenue North is a one-story, 14,850-square-foot trapezium-shaped industrial building on Block 251 at 1229 3rd Avenue North, on the corner of 13th Street North.

The building was built by Charlie Molay around 1960 on the site of a former Jefferson Iron & Metal Co. scrap yard. The western side of the building was constructed at an angle which had been established before the 1880s to accommodate the right-of-way for trackage of the Kansas City, Memphis and Birmingham Railroad and the Birmingham & Pratt Mines Railroad which had serviced the nearby Alice Furnaces.

From 2001 to 2019 the building was the headquarters of the Birmingham Urban League. Edwards Chevrolet purchased the property in 2023 for use as a parts warehouse.
