Andrew A. Sorensen (born c. 1939 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; died April 17, 2011 in Columbus, Ohio) was the 25th President of the University of Alabama, serving from 1996 until 2002.
Sorensen received degrees from Yale University, University of Illinois, and University of Michigan. He served as provost of the University of Florida before coming to Tuscaloosa in 1990 as Vice President of Academic Affairs. He was promoted to president six years later. As president Sorensen helped the university navigate a troubled economic climate, promoted research and recruited National Merit Scholars.
