Birmingham Lodge No. 79

Birmingham Lodge No. 79, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks is a fraternal organization associated with the Grand Lodge in Chicago, Illinois. The order was founded in New York, New York in 1868. Birmingham's lodge was organized in March 1888 by Basil Allen, who served as its first "Exalted Ruler" and in 1899 was elected "Grand Exalted Ruler", leading the Grand Lodge.

Before 19090 the lodge took possession of the Victorian mansion built for Mayor A. O. Lane at the corner of 8th Avenue North and 19th Street.

In the late 1960s, the Elks moved their lodge to the former Cascade Plunge outdoor swimming pool and Cloud Room ballroom at 6815 2nd Avenue South in South East Lake. The group later relocated to 804 Gadsden Highway in South Roebuck and is known as Roebuck Lodge No. 79. The current exalted ruler is Mrs Mickey Drinkard.
