Brett Taft (born November 9, 1973 in Hueytown) was a professional baseball shortstop.

College career

After playing for the Hueytown Golden Gophers, Taft became a four-year starter for Jim Wells at the University of Alabama. Taft hit a home run in his first college at-bat in 1993 and was considered a vital part of the Crimson Tide's 1996 SEC Championship team. Taft ranks second on the Alabama single-season (210, 1996) and career charts (620) for assists. Taft was named SEC Player of the Week for April 8, 1996. He was also named to 1996 Olive Garden Classic All-Tournament Team and was a member of the 1996 NCAA South I Regional All-Tournament team.

Professional career

Taft was a 19th round draft pick for the Kansas City Royals in the June 1996 draft. Taft played three seasons with Kansas City's farm teams in the minor leagues.
