Canaan Baptist Church is a the oldest Baptist church in Jefferson County. It was organized on September 5, 1818 at the Isaac Brown residence and met in various places in the vicinity of Jonesboro until 1824. It constructed its first church building at the present site of New Canaan Cemetery. The church relocated to its present site at 2543 Morgan Road in Bessemer in 1856.
