CapitalSouth Bank

CapitalSouth Bank is a community bank headquartered on Woodcrest Place in Homewood. The bank is led by W. Dan Puckett who has been chairman since CapitalSouth Bancorp purchased the bank in 1992. It was known as Bank of Alabama until 2005, when it opened a branch in Jacksonville, Florida.

CapitalSouth has branches in Homewood on Woodcrest Place, in Birmingham on West Valley Avenue, in Pelham, and in Hoover on Lorna Road. The branches on West Valley and in Hoover were originally called Banco Hispanico and were the first branches that targeted the area's growing Hispanic population. Costa Rica native Mariela Méndez was hired as branch manager for the first bilingual branch on Lorna Road.

Aside from the office in Florida, CapitalSouth has an office in Huntsville and a loan production office in Atlanta, GA. A separate subsidiary of CapitalSouth Bancorp is Capital Bank, which operates two branches in Montgomery. Capital Bank was approved in August 2006 to merge with CapitalSouth Bank, and the merger is set to be completed in October 2006.
