Charm in July 2010

Charm is a jewelry and accessories boutique owned by Chatham Hellmers and Walton Creel. It is located in the Blackwood-Bentley Building at 2329 2nd Avenue North in downtown Birmingham. Hellmers owned two stores previous to Charm, Luxe which was located in Forest Park and the Five Points South hotspot Jinx. Charm opened its doors on September 1, 2009.

The shop specializes in jewelry and accessories. Hellmers, who learned the craft of display while working at Barneys in New York, artfully presents new, vintage and her own handmade jewelery in beautiful antique wood and glass display cases and weathered tables. Charm also offers handbags, scarves, artisan greeting cards, art, and sunglasses as well as Edison bulbs and antiques.

Hellmers fills Charms windows with whimsical seasonal displays such as a suspended and internally illuminated prom dress decorated to look like a Christmas tree and two ornately decorated calaveras to coincide with the Dia de los Muertos celebration at Bare Hands Gallery. Charm also serves as an artist site during the Artwalk festival.
