The committee was chaired by developer Robert Jemison Jr. A full-page advertisement that it ran in local papers was co-signed by Claude Lawson of U.S. Pipe, Elbert Jemison of Jemison Realty, William Engel of Engel Realty Co., Clarence Hanson Jr of The Birmingham News, Robert Montgomery of Montgomery Real Estate Co., Edward Norton of Coosa River Newsprint Co., and Sidney Smyer of the Birmingham Realty Company.
